I would have supported Ron Paul during the Republican primary, if it were not for his foreign policy platform. Quite frankly, in this day and age, it's not the way to go. I agree with Ron Paul that we shouldn't be policing the world - though America is a super power, and we should be leading and setting an example for the rest of the world - and we DO live in a dangerous world; it's reality. Terrorism is a real threat.
Now, his monetary policy; that I can agree with. His economic platform is very enticing to a lot of Conservatives, including myself. Overall, Ron Paul is a good man and his intentions are commendable.
I'm seeing a lot of talk on-line about Ron Paul running for President again. Not a good idea. Unfortunately, Ron Paul is getting up there in age and lacks charisma. It would be election suicide for Republicans for Ron Paul to put his hat in the Republican primary. It would just be dividing the party - like what happened in '08; Ron Paul's ideas about foreign policy are that much different than the base of the party. A significant portion of Republicans see Paul as a defeatist. That doesn't sit well with them.
If the Republicans could get a younger, charismatic Conservative, who stands for Paul's message about economics, they would have a winner, or at the very least give Obama a run for his money. Ron Paul can be credited for starting a Libertarian/Conservative movement within the Republican party, but he's just too old. That's the reality of the situation.
Libertarians need to get over the past, and not treat Ron Paul as Obama fanatics treat President Obama. Ron Paul's message is what's important, and he'll be the first one to tell you that.
The Republican party needs a young, charismatic, fresh face for the 2012 election.
